I was testing an adjusted yellow cake recipe (which I loved!!) and decided to make it into a dart board. I was out in the shed the other day and saw our dart board sitting very lonely on the ground. I want to put it in the house so we can play, since it is too hot and mosquito filled outside right now, but occasionally I miss the board all together so I was a little concerned. We do have a very long hallway with a door at the end, so with the right back board protecting the door from my random mishaps, it could work!
I also got to use my airbrush a whole lot for this cake. It worked like a charm, I’m still getting use to it though! I sprayed the cake in a protected area this time, since last time we had a thin layer of green and blue paint all over the dining room (walls, floor, everything). Out feet were stained blue green for a week! Ridiculous!
We have been toying with the idea of having a drive-thru cupcake window at Bozilla Cakes for those hungry drivers in need of an immediate sugar boost! So today, I was trying a new vanilla cake recipe (low cholesterol) and decided to make them into cupcakes. I used what I had available around at the moment, but we would offer an array of funky, interestingly decorated cupcakes. Not only then would you get a cupcake, but depending on the decorated top, you would also get a cookie or some candy….How bad could that be!!
My grandma’s birthday was this week, but we had her party this weekend so everyone could make it. I made her this custom book cake at the request of my grandpa. The roses were made out of gum paste and totally freehand because I do not have my petal cutter yet! Her favorite author right now is Tami Hoag, so those were the titles I chose for the book covers.
Oh, and I finally got my airbrush working, so this was my first attempt at air brushing a cake. I need to work a little on technique, but it was way easier than coloring all the fondant that I needed!
I made this custom cake for my mom’s 50th birthday, which now that I think about it was the first birthday cake I had made. She is a book lover, so this was a perfect theme for her. The catchy titles on the books, compliments of my boyfriend, were our way to nudge at the 50th birthday without being obnoxious!
The cake was chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream, and the brown cover of one of the books was chocolate fondant. So delicious!
